All members of the healthcare team have a role in the identification and treatment of sepsis and septic shock to reduce the negative impact of sepsis. Sepsis coordinators are at the heart of patient identification and navigating and interpreting sepsis alerting and data from the EHR. This session will discuss the instrumental role in identifying those meeting sepsis criteria, ensuring adherence to guidelines, and guiding documentation to ensure proper reimbursement for patients with sepsis.

Elizabeth Tomaszewski, DNP, RN, CRNP, CNE, CCRN, ACNP-BC, ACNPC, has over 30 years of experience in nursing in varied settings such as level I trauma, emergency, and critical care. She has been an acute care nurse practitioner practicing critical care medicine since 2009, and at Wolters Kluwer Health as a clinical content editing manager for Certification Review. She also has 9 years of experience as faculty and as the track director for the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program at Drexel University and is very proud of her students’ successes with 100% pass rate on their boards. Her passions in nursing include end-of-life care (particularly in acute care settings), communication, situational de-escalation, nursing education, nursing ethics, advanced practice nursing, and critical care.  Her goal is to improve the profession of nursing by effecting critical thought in nurses at all stages of their careers and empowering them to do the same.
