Date/Time: September 28, 2023 | 11:15 - 11:45 am ET

Trauma-informed mental health care is an approach to providing healthcare services that recognizes and responds to the impact of trauma on individuals' mental well-being. It involves creating a safe and supportive environment that acknowledges the prevalence and effects of trauma, while emphasizing empowerment, choice, and collaboration in the healing process.

For sepsis survivors, trauma-informed mental health care is crucial due to the significant physical, emotional, and psychological toll that sepsis can have on individuals.

This session will delve into the concept of trauma-informed care and its role in supporting sepsis survivors. Attendees will explore practical strategies and interventions that promote healing, resilience, and empowerment for individuals who have undergone healthcare trauma, particularly in the context of sepsis. Ultimately, this approach helps foster trust, resilience, and healing, supporting sepsis survivors on their path to recovery and improving their overall mental well-being.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, the learner should be able to:

  • Define trauma, focusing on the context of traumatic healthcare experiences;
  • Identify signs and symptoms related to healthcare trauma;
  • Explain how to support individuals who have experienced healthcare trauma such as sepsis, through a trauma-informed care lens.
