During this session learners will assess sepsis diagnosis recognition and treatment recommendations in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. The presentation will explore myocardial dysfunction etiologies in sepsis, treatment approaches to cardiogenic shock alongside a sepsis diagnosis. Attendees will also explore mechanical circulatory support options with cardiogenic shock.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, the learner should be able to:

  • Review etiologies of myocardial dysfunction in the setting of sepsis;
  • Discuss approach to cardiogenic shock in the setting of sepsis;
  • Review mechanical circulatory support options in the setting of cardiogenic shock

Target Audience: 

Nurses, advanced practice providers, physicians, emergency responders, pharmacists, medical technologists, respiratory therapists, physical/occupational therapists, infection prevention specialists, data/quality specialists, and more.

Jonathan Ludmir, MD

Assistant Professor of Medicine

Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School

Jona Ludmir, MD, is a critical care cardiologist at the Corrigan Minehan Heart Center ICU at Mass General. He is also an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Ludmir received his medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, cardiology fellowship at the University of Maryland Medical Center, and critical care fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center. Dr. Ludmir specializes in cardiac intensive care, critical care echocardiography, and heart disease prevention. Dr. Ludmir’s research interests include optimizing communication in the ICU, providing family-centered care, and addressing cardiovascular care disparities.
