Description:

Date/Time: September 28, 2023 | 2:05 - 2:35 pm ET

Sepsis, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and COVID-19 all exhibit clinical and biologic heterogeneity. The diversity presents clinical researchers with challenges in the development of trials for existing and novel immunomodulating therapies for these conditions. During this session, the presenter will review the immune system response to sepsis, ARDS, and COVID-19, and explore the various aspects of immunomodulating therapies. Attendees will also learn more about future sepsis, ARDS, and COVID-19 therapy trial concepts and how these concepts may affect future patient care and outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, the learner should be able to:

  • Explain the role of the immune system in sepsis, ARDS, and COVID-19;
  • Describe therapies to suppress inflammation, therapies to augment immunity, and therapies that do both;
  • Indicate future concepts for trials of existing and novel therapies.
