Artificial Intelligence (AI) has a lot of buzz around it, but how can it be applied to sepsis care and sepsis prevention? During this session, Michael H. Hooper, MD, Vice President Medical Affairs at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and Scott Stewart, Senior Process Improvement Engineer for Sentara Healthcare share their experience with AI and sepsis care. The webinar includes a brief overview of AI and its definition, the potential benefits of and challenges with AI, critical workflow and implementation considerations, and a case study of the AI solution in place at Sentara Healthcare.

Learning Objectives: 

At the end of the activity, the learner should be able to:

Scott Stewart, LSSBB, PMP, CSM

Scott Stewart is a full-time project manager and process improvement engineer for one of the largest healthcare systems in the state of Virginia. He has been in this line of work for over 10 years and has completed multiple projects in the realm of corporate change and innovation.  He holds certifications in project management, agile scrum methodologies, and is a lean six sigma black belt.

Michael H. Hooper, MD, MSc

Vice President, Medical Affairs

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital

Dr. Hooper has extensive clinical and research experience in the detection and treatment of septic patients. Dr. Hooper has published original research on electronic systems for detecting patients with developing sepsis in an intensive care unit and has assisted in developing processes for sepsis development in 2 healthcare systems.  He is a current executive committee member of the VICTAS trial, studying Vitamin C, Thiamine, and Steroids in septic patients.  He has spoken internationally about the care of septic and critically ill patients.

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number CEP17068 for 1.6 contact hours.

Other healthcare professionals will receive a certificate of attendance for 1.25 contact hours.
